NAVAL POINT CLUB - eNewsletter

Tuesday 11th June 2024

Winter here at NPCL always looks a bit different, not only with activity around the club slowing down, and the weather becoming increasingly moody and uninspiring. But it's the time when we start making plans for the coming season brush up on our training and knowledge and get all our ducks in a row.

Over the past few weeks, Amanda and Sabrina have taken a trip to Auckland and participated in a 4-day conference put on by the BLAKE foundation and supported by YNZ for the implementation of the YNZ ‘Moanamana’ program, this is the 3rd module of the YNZ RUNA program, we are already implementing the first module being kokokaha or the schools sailing program. This 4-day conference has given us the tools and knowledge to come back to the club and implement activities around marine sustainability and to gain a better understanding of how to look after our environment within our community, so hopefully next summer we will have this in its foundation stages. Otherwise, a 4-day conference getting to spend an afternoon sailing the infamous Steinlager 2, exploring rock pools on the north shore, walking ecology trails, investigating local streams, snorkelling in a marine reserve and visiting a b-corp certified brewery for an evening was a great way to spend 4 days!

Before that, Amanda spent 3 days at an intensive 3 day Sport Canterbury conference working with other head coaches from the Canterbury and around the country. This conference had a great focus on learning to develop coaches and support them on their coaching journey. Many great tools were learnt to help set our coaches and sailors up for success.

NPCL Elliott 6 Fleet

Some of you may have noticed that our fleet of club-owned Elliott 6's has been M.I.A for a wee while.

They are undergoing a bit of a maintenance period so they can hit the water next season with a fresh lease on life, including some critical TLC to their rigs.

One of the biggest challenges we have had with the boats is their Sails. Most of the sails are now well over 10 years old, and they have been put through their paces.

OUR PROPOSAL TO YOU:

A new set of sails (Main, Jib and Spinnaker) has been quoted at $4700 per boat.

Do you have or know of a business that would be willing to sponsor a set of sails in turn your logo would be displayed on the Main and Spinnaker as well as an annual sponsors day where we can take a number of our sponsors out sailing in the boats.

In the very near future there will also be the opportunity to sponsor a hull, so if you are interested in sponsoring a complete boat (sails and hull logos) please do get in touch.
