For sale - A Modern Classic Athol Burns masthead sloop 35ft 7" (10.8 m).

A modern classic Athol Burns masthead sloop 35ft 7” (10.8 m). It was launched in 1997, built by Wellington boatbuilder Malcolm Collins for his own use. Built of single skin carvel kauri on oak and heart rimu steamed ribs, fastened with copper bolts and silicon bronze screws. The decks and cabin are glassed-over marine ply. Keel is lead. We have owned the boat for three years and have replaced the standing rigging (2018) and sails (2019). The hull was stripped back and repainted in 2018; topsides repainted in 2019. The 35 hp 3 cylinder Volvo engine was overhauled in 2018 (new water pump, new exhaust elbow, new wet lock) and the propeller was replaced at the same time. Recently the entire electrical system including two batteries system was replaced and a new solar panel and regulator installed. The mast is anodised alloy. There is a detachable inner forestay with a hank-on staysail and storm jib, both hardly used. A Facnor roller-furler on the bow and an as-new spinnaker. Behind the mast the new mainsail with three reef points and a trysail. Down below the boat is simple but beautiful with high quality rimu joinery. Two benchtops, both with hand-pumped seawater and one with fresh water under pressure (225 liter in 2 stainless tanks). A quarterberth aft, two bunks in the cabin and a double bed up forward. Toilet with holding tank. The engine is located in the centre of the boat, 110 l diesel tank under the port bunk. A comfortable cockpit with a well proportioned hard dodger which works really well. Acrylic windows and hatches all replaced/or in the process of being replaced. Under sail she has a very comfortable motion but is no slouch. While a boat is never finished, there is very little to do; she is ready to take you out wherever you want to go.
