Looking to get out on the water and experience the joy of sailing? Our Adult Learn to Sail course is the perfect way to start your sailing journey.
For $600, you’ll enjoy three fun, hands-on sessions (each 4 hours long) aboard one of our Elliott 6.0 sailboats. With just you, another adult, and one of our experienced coaches, you’ll receive personalized instruction and plenty of time in control of the boat.
Over the course, you will:
Learn how to rig and de-rig a sailboat
Understand the fundamentals of sailing
Build the confidence to handle a boat on your own
Schedule:
Sessions run monthly on Saturdays at 1 pm
The last weekend of the month is reserved as a weather backup day
💡 Payment Options:If paying the full $600 upfront feels like too much at once, you can pay per session, as long as the full amount is settled by your first day of sailing.

The course will cover a range of subjects, including water safety, names of boat parts, setting up boats, capsizing, launching and retrieving, tacking, gybing, points of sail and basic knots
The course provides Plastic Optimist designed especially for learning and these courses include buoyancy aids and facilities.
Our coaches are all qualified to Learn to Sail Coaches and run highly effective, well-managed courses.
On successful completion of the course the sailor will have achieved Level One of the YNZ Learn to Sail framework, which is nationally recognised. You will then be given the opportunity to carry on your sailing with Learn to Sail Level 2
Age: For kids aged 7-13yrs with no or very little sailing experience
Time: Ready to be on the water no later than 930am to approximately 12pm every Sunday of Term 4
Dates: Starting October 11th for 8 weeks - Excluding public holiday weekends.
Cost: $105 NPCL Club Membership + $280 Course Cost.

For sailors with their own boat & gear who have completed a Learn to Sail program
Our Green Fleet, Open fleet and junior sailing is for those who can independently get themselves around a basic course, from here they will follow the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Race course which teaches them more about how to make their boats go fast, taking care of their new boat, boat handling and the racing rules of sailing.
There will also be multiple opportunities throughout the season for these sailors to head away to regattas with coach support
Time: Saturdays ready to be on the water at 930 am - 12 noon during the Sailing Season, Saturday afternoon club racing and weekday afternoon training (Optional) (October - April)
Cost: $105 NPCL Junior Club Membership + $550 - covers all weekend coaching for the season OR $225 if only sailing for one term

Parent involvement is essential.
Naval Point Club Lyttelton is host to 6 teams racing 420's with the aspiration to develop and grow teams racing in Canterbury.
Coaching takes place from 3pm to 5.30pm on a Wednesday and other sessions when suitable.
All secondary School students with sailing experience are welcome.
Regattas will be attended when possible.
