VOLUNTEERS

At the heart of every Club are its volunteers.  The Naval Point Club Lyttelton's sailing programme continues to excel with the enthusiasm and commitment from our volunteers. The ability to continue to deliver a first class and diverse sailing programme depends very much on the assistance and support of volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to keep yourself active and at the same time to enjoy the benefits of being a part of one of NewZealand's highly-regarded and friendliest sailing clubs. As the only all tide club in Canterbury, Naval Point hosts a wide range of sailing classes each week and is the venue for South Island, National and International events.

If spending a free afternoon or an early summer evening on Whakaraupo, in good company, performing a highly valued club service sounds good to you, our club office would love to hear from you.  Maybe you are between boats, happy to support your partner racing, new to the sport and / or simply interested in learning how yacht racing or centreboard racing is conducted.

Any level of expereince is welcomed, whether a beginner or an ISAF International Race Officer, a willingness to be part of a team and provide superb on-water management races is all this is require.

Various roles are required on a weekly basis including;

  • Race Officer
  • Scribes
  • Flag operators
  • Mark Layer / Rescue boat - Club ribs (the operator must be a Club Member)

NPCL is dedicated to mentoring and providing continious training opportunities for all its Race Officials.

 All volunteers whilst acting on for the club are covered under the clubs insurance policy.

Our volunteers range from the dedicated who volunteer on a regular basis, to those who only volunteer once or twice a year.  There is no requirement to volunteer a minimum number of times per annum. When you volunteer we provide a lunch made up of a sandwich/wrap or roll, a piece of fruit, a chocolate bar and a bottle of water.  We also have a Volunteer Thank you Night once a year, and throughout the year we have little celebration parties just for fun.

    Additionally we have volunteers that help around the club in many other areas, including the library, looking after our boats and grounds and maintaining our archives.
