CREW FINDER

How do I start Crewing?

Whether you are new to sailing, or an experienced sailor, NPCL may be able to assist you in finding your next crewing opportunity.

In many cases the best way to find a crew position is to turn up on race days, two hours or so before the start times shown and approach skippers directly or ask at the office.

Things to remember when hedding out sailing:

  • A life jacket (most boats will have spares, but you are best to get one of your own that fits well and is comfortable for you to wear)
  • Warm clothes that you don’t mind getting wet
  • A warm wet weather jacket (even in summer it can get cold)
  • Non-slip non-marking shoes
  • Sailing gloves
  • A hat, sunglasses & sunscreen
  • A drink and something to eat (things to share with the rest of the crew is always appreciated and helps get a return invitation!)

Crew Looking For Yachts

Bevan Moore,

I’d like to put my name forward for crewing on Saturdays on a trailer sailer or possibly a Keeler.

I’m 61 and my goal is to buy a boat to live aboard when I retire.

I’ve had a few weekends sailing Noelexes in Timaru and last weekend at Naval Point. I’m keen to keep on that track for now and improve my skills and confidence.

As I live in Methven, Wednesday nights are out for me but I’m good on  Saturdays and even Sundays as I have the weekends free.

I can be contacted on this email

bevanjmoore@gmail.com

Or 025351656 anytime.

Corrah Phillips

My name is Corrah, I am 25 and I have just moved to Lyttelton from Wanaka and am really keen to get involved in some social racing and spend more time on boats learning as much as I can, in the hope of owning my own boat one day soon! I have done a bit of racing in Wanaka and recently travelled to Mexico and got to experience my first chunk of ocean sailing, mostly on Etchells and Noelexs! I would absolutely love to join a crew that is open to teaching and needs some extra (very keen) hands! Thanks :)

Caleb

Hi, I'm Caleb, 25yrs young working in tech and keen to get back out on the water crewing in any capacity.

Its been a few years since I've done anything other than putting around on my Laser but am super keen to crew again, on keelboats. I did a lot of sailing in my teenage years, mainly on smaller dinghies Lasers and RS Feva, but also crewed a couple of times on keelboats around the Nelson harbour. Probably my most adventurous sailing experience was crewing on a 65ft Ketch from Fiji to Nelson via Bay of Islands. I have my VHF licence, Day Skippers and Boatmasters.
